Carlos Barela is the eldest grandson of of one of New Mexico's most famous woodcarvers, Patricinio Barela. He is the father of woodcarvers Roberto Barela and cousin of Luis Barela, jr. Carlos carries on the tradition of carving Bultos and Santos from rare, aged cedar wood. The rich colors and curved branches of the cedar are the beginning of beautiful sculptures.
All of Carlos' carvings are created with hand tools. He has received numerous awards from the Spanish Colonial Arts Society. In very good overall condition. There is a break to her little finger on her left hand that is resting on her head. Retains a nice warm patina.
