Large Folk Art Wood Carving Barefoot Weary Traveler. This is a beautifully detailed wood carved sculpture of a barefoot man clearly on a very long journey. He is carrying two large packs with checkered carved exteriors, strapped on his back with a strap that circles his chest and upper arms. There is a bowl on top of one of the packs, and a square object parcel? He has two bags and a pouch attached to his belt, and he is carrying a gourd or jug of presumably water in both hands like his life depends on it. The man's left foot and leg are lifted in a walking motion, and with the posture of the man's head and expression, you can feel the weight of his packs and heaviness of the distance behind and in front of him. There is a woven hatching pattern carved into the bedroll packs. Everything about him is beautifully detailed from the draping of his clothing to the definition in his toe knuckles (really). I encourage you to enlarge the pictures and examine this piece closely. This is a special carving as you almost never see this level of intricate detail in a folk art subject piece. The sculpture stands 16.5" H x 6" W x 5 D. It is in beautiful condition, with no scars, gouges, splitting, or other types of damage. He could use a good cleaning and oiling.
