Wonderful 19th Century Countertop Cigar Store Figure of Punch. This wonderful Folk Art carving was in a general store in Indiana where. It was used as a Countertop advertising Figure until some time in the 20th. Century when the general Store was closed down as the country grew. And the small rural towns was passed by as the freeways expanded. It is carved out of one solid piece of wood and was most probably.

It is now bare wood with some chips and very minor. The Punch and Judy show has roots in the 16th-century Italian commedia dell'arte. The figure of Punch is derived from the Neapolitan stock character of Pulcinella, which was anglicized to Punchinello.
