VINTAGE ORIGINAL WALLACE WOOD CARVING OF WOMANS HEAD SIGNED BAHAMAS 1989 CUBIST STYLE CARVING. Originally from Andros Island, in the Bahamas, not only has Henry Wallace been acclaimed a living legend by the Bahamian government, his self-taught talent has been displayed and recognized in and shown across the United States and the world. The most notable Red Bays resident is Henry Wallace, who's woodworking has appeared in Washington's Smithsonian museum. Henry's work can be quite pricey but many flock to his workshop to watch him whittle dried wood into a masterpiece. Henry embodies the culture and history of this community. His hands bear the scars of decades of woodworking and he keeps his long dreadlocks bundled up on the top of his head, creating a crown-like shape. Watching him finish off a small sculpture is mesmerising. His cutting is precise and predetermined, bringing the pieces to life. THIS IS A VINTAGE ORIGINAL HENRY WALLACE WOOD CARVING OF WOMANS HEAD SIGNED BAHAMAS 1989 IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE A CUBIST STYLE CARVING WITH THE VERY SQUARE FEATURES. IT IS ABOUT 16" tall and 6" across. It is signed "Bahamas, 1989". Wallace would only carve pieces from dead wood and from one piece of wood. This item has a beautiful two tone wood which highlights the sculpture in a wonderful way. Henry Wallace has had is work exhibited internationally with a showing in 1994 for the Smithsonian's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage in Washington, D. He has also taught carving in Gainesville, Florida and had an art show in 2005 at the University of Florida. This is an amazing, unusual and gorgeous piece of art!

Good condition with primitive lines. Normal very minor splits in wood.
