It is made of stone, I assume that the base is a piece of slate and the rock is a piece of Maine granite BUT, I can't be completely sure. I have no idea what the fisherman and fish are made out of. Standing at 8 3/4 inches tall (from the stone base to the top of the fishing pole) and 10 inches wide (all measurements are approximate) this unique piece of art is a beautiful representation of the rugged and raw beauty of the ocean.
Made by a very talented artist, this sculpture is a compelling and unique addition to any art collection. The fisherman is detached from the stone base.
You can see remnants of glue on the bottom of the fisherman and on the stone base, so it's obvious that he was fixed in place at one point. I like it better now that the person can change location on the rocks but, if you want him permanently in one spot, I would gently scrape away the remaining glue and re-glue him. There are lots of scrapes, scratches, discolorations and blemishes.
This sculpture has A LOT of personality and character! The fishing pole detaches from his hands (slides out).
It reminds me a Native American or First Nations image and, since it was found in Coastal Maine, using presumed Maine Stones, I imagine that it represents Maine's or Maritime Canada's incredibly rugged coastline. Please see all of the photos.
The item had been boxed, double boxed and (in the case of the fisherman) triple boxed. Stock Number: SHLF 000030626 001.
