Antique Folk Art FOX HUNT Wood Carvings Chester County, PA Horses Hound Dogs
Extremely nice antique folk art wood carvings of FOX HUNT horses, riders and hound dogs all in great original paint, patina & condition. This is a really wonderful group of wood carvings, there are two horses with riders and 13 hound dogs all in wonderful paint, patina & condition.
The two horses, one white and one chestnut brown have lots of interesting details. The horses are carved in 5 parts, the body and 4 attached legs. Each horse has a leather and wood carved saddle, full leather harness with stirrups and carved ears. Their manes and tails are also quite interesting and in excellent condition.
Each horse has an open mouth and carved nose & eyes. The horses legs & hooves are also well executed.
The attention to detail is really great. The two riders, I think one is a man and the other is a lady have articulated arms. They are both wearing red jackets trimmed in black, white pants, boots and riding caps. Both have carved facial features. The riders are caved in one piece with attached arms & hands. The man fits best on the chestnut brown horse, the lady seems more comfortable on the white horse. The 13 Hound Dogs are really folky, they are carved in 7 pieces. There is a body, 4 legs, a neck / head and a tail. Each dog is of course unique, they are similar but not matching. About 7 appear to be Beagles, one may be a Dalmation and the other 6 are just interesting dogs.They are all in somewhat different positions. Extra details include tongues and applied ears. The white horse is 8" x 9" high.
The brown horse is 9" x 9" high. Riders on horseback are 10" & 12" high. Dogs are about 7" x 4 1/2" high.
The paint on all the carvings is original as well as the great patina. A few dogs have minor tail tip issues and a few ears are missing. I have looked the carvings over rather carefully and only noted very minor restoration. You are getting a total of 17 folk art carvings!!! The true essence of American folk art.You will not be disappointed!!!!
