Trio Of Vintage Guatemalan Carved San Pascual Skeletons Collectible Folk Art

  
FANTASTIC ORIGINAL HALOWEEN AND DAY OF THE DEAD ORNAMENTS Three large, carved figures with movable arms the depicting a skeletal patron saint worshipped by the highland Maya in the highlands of western Guatemala and Chiapas, Mexico. From the Quiche Department of Guatemala, acquired from a local carver in the mid-1980s near the town of Chichicastenango. One of the carvings is somewhat older and better-finished than the others and is clearly the model from which the other two were carved. Paint with thin gesso over a hard softwood; probably white pine or old-growth Mexican cypress. One of the carvings has a repaired arm (inconspicuous; see attached photo); all have very minor nicks associated with age and floor display.

Dimensions: Height ranges from 33 to 34 Width across shoulders 7.5 Depth 3.5 back to front. Wonderful conversation pieces for Hispanic folk art collectors or aficionados of the Day of the Dead. Cash only for local sales.
