Vintage Folk Art Carved Head Lamp

  
I found this incredible piece of Americana Folk Art in the attic really! Of a very old house in Connecticut years ago during an estate sale.

It measures 8 1/2" tLL, 6" wide, 5 1/2 deep. Face is 5 1/2" x 4". Amazing detail and sensitivity to rendering the facial features.

Original light socket and cord as i found it. Wonderful patina and old surface to face.

In the back where the light is located, you can see the carving out of the wood, black paint added and then a natural material made into a braid or rope was added around the edge of the rear opening- strange! It appears that initials were added in the form of seashells which spells out J.

As far as age, i can only base it on the style of electrical components which seem to date to the 1930s-1950s. The relatives running the sale didnt shed much light on it, other than to say it was in the attic forever! This item is in the category "Art\Art Sculptures".
