Mid 20th Century Folk Art Carved and Polychrome Painted Bird Mounted on Turned Knob Berks County, PA. For Your American Folk Art Collection-BerksCoBird2. Description: A hand carved and polychrome painted wood American Folk Art bird. The carving, which we believe was done in Berks County Pennsylvania, has wire legs and is mounted on a salvaged turned knob. The bird, which is a great example of Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, has two blueish-gray wings and a brownish-red body with black highlights throughout.

The bird has two black eyes and black highlights for feathers in the wing and the tail. The knob is brown in color and has a hole in the center of the bottom. A great piece of folk art to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely mid 1900s (mid 20th century).

We believe the piece was made in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Size: The bird itself is 6 3/4" long, 1" wide, and the piece is 3 1/2 at its highest. The base itself is 2" in diameter and is 1 1/8" high. The piece weighs about 1.8 ounces. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice piece of American folk art in the best tradition of Pennsylvania Dutch art work, which would make a worthy addition to your collection or as a decorative accent in your home.

Condition: The carving is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks, or repairs. There is a small chip to the edge of the base and the artist used a knob that is missing a portion of the edge of the base.

However, these issues are minor and do not distract from the quality and beauty of the piece. The piece also has minor scratches and minimal loss to the finish.
