Contemporary Hand Carved Polychrome Painted Schimmel-Style Carved Wood Folk Art Lion With Mounted Tail By Dierwechter Sisters. For Your American Folk Art Collection-DierwechterSistersLion1. Description: A beautiful hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk Art Schimmel-like lion standing on all four and having a mounted tail. The lion is colored in brown with red highlights. It has its eyes, nose, mouth, and the end of its tail colored in black. The lion is standing on a green colored base with its toes outlined in black.

Of yellow with black and red highlights. The lion's main and the end of the mounted tail show details of hair, while the rest of the lion shows carving marks.

The lion has black eyes, eye brows, mouth, toes, and nostrils. It does have a red highlights to the mouth. The hole where the mounted tail was inserted can be seen and some glue residue can be gleaned if you look carefully for it.

These are artifacts of the making process and are original to the making of the piece. The entire piece is carved from wood.

Just a wonderful piece of American Folk Art to add to your Americana Collection. This piece is typical of the type of Pennsylvania Dutch carvings seen in Southeastern Pennsylvania. This piece is reminiscent of Wilhelm Schimmel's work from the 1800s. It was made by the Dierwechter Sisters of Schaefferstown, PA as evidenced by the stamped letter D on the bottom of the base (see nextt to last photo). Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Unknown but most likely sometime between 1980 and 2000. Origin: Schaefferstown in Lebanon County Pennsylvania.

Size: The piece measures 5 1/4" in height with the base measuring 4 3/4" by 1 7/8. The piece weighs over 4.5 ounces.

Maker: Dierwechter Sisters of Schaefferstown, PA. Marks: Marked on the bottom of the base with a stamped letter "D". Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and colorful piece of Americana, which would look great in your collection. Condition: The carving is in very good condition.
