19th-C Folk Art Wood Carving Carved Renaissance Jester Natural Patina 14

We are delighted to offer this rare vintage hand carved amazing sculpture of a sitting court jester in the Renaissance Style. A truly rare find, the incredible details in the clothes, her facial features and perfect body posture tell us that this can only be the work of a master carver. The emphasized size of the upturned feet makes this work of art extra rare and impressive. Although often referred to as'fools', court jesters, just like modern day entertainers, often were exactly the opposite. Their higher than average intelligence and their storytelling, musical and acrobatic skills actually made them highly appreciated and all round entertainers that became members of the household of a nobleman or monarch.

It is our belief that this majestic jester is enjoying a break from telling a gripping story, or keeping her audience captivated not only with her story and voice, but also with the calming certainty of her facial expression. This jester will look awesome, no matter where you decide to place her. Gently used with age related wear and a contraction split where there is restoration on the back, this piece is in good vintage condition. It measures approximately 14.75" high x 7" diameter 8 deep and is signed on the bottom.
