For sale is a wonderful 1930's Folk Art Carved Horse Wood Sliding Box. From a private collection of folk art out of a Connecticut estate collection.
The carving features a seated horse draped with a diamond pattern horse saddle and ebony colored horse bridle. On the horses underside is a slide box for keepsakes, trinkets coins.. It has a finely detailed incised patterned mane. The horse is most likely from the 1930s era. It has somewhat of an art deco look to it so perhaps this age is pretty accurate.
Although it came from a Connecticut estate we are unsure if it is American in origin. Perhaps the saddle pattern could identifiable. Unsure of the wood species but was told its most likely walnut. We have added a close-up picture of the wood green surface for your consideration. The slide box is very hard to close smoothly due to shrinkage over time. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Decorative Collectibles\Sculptures & Figurines".
