Vintage OUTSIDER FOLK ART Wood Root Sculpture PORCUPINE Hand Carved. Probably circa 1940s, possibly earlier.

Northeastern folk art, very charming primitive piece. Excellent vintage condition, no scratches, broken root ends, or repair- pristine. 12" long x 6.25" high x 5.25 wide. Solid and very heavy hardwood which has been polished and smoothed.

Completely hand made outsider/folk art piece carved and fashioned from a large gnarled wood root with the root ends representing the'quills'. The top clearly shows 6 round flat areas where branches were sawed off to create the porcupine back.

Fantastic texture of bark and wood lumps and bumps. Amazing expression and hand carved face, ears, legs. Legs are attached by wooden dowels, feet have been individually carved and are securely nailed on. Eyes are flat black painted metal nails.

Fantastic one of a kind piece- gallery quality collectible. Signed with the carved name EZRA BEAN on the underside.

A completely unique sculpture- would look great on a mantle piece etc, a very special gift for an Art collector. Not sure what type of wood this is....
