A short film was made about George and his carvings and he enjoyed an excellent reputation as a true unique Mainer. This American Bald Eagle was one carving that he placed near the road side by his carvings for sale sign. The 2nd Photo is one of George that I took in 1981. You can see that he placed an eye hook on the top of the body and wired it to hang and move in the breeze. This piece shows some weathering from being outdoors in the elements. The Eagle measures 22" long, 17" between the wing tips, each wing is 11 long and the thickness of the body is approx. NOTE" You will see that the bottom of the body has a split known as a "check in the carving world.
That is as old as the piece and it is simply that the green wet wood dried unevenly and the stress produced a small "check". George cut some individual triangles of metal and made a decorative "feather" collar around the neck. George mixed cedar and pine wood freely.
This eagle has a head, body, tail, and 2 separate wings. It will require an excellent packing job to ensure that the eagle arrives safely and I will guarantee that.
