This offering is for a folk art hand carved match safe featuring two carved birds and a birds nest. The carving dates from the least half of the 19th century, around the 1870's to 1880's.
4 5/8" long and 3 3/8" in height. The birds and nest exhibit an excellent form carved by a very talented carver. The figure was never painted or varnished and it has a wonderful mellow surface patina. There is scattered high point wear with small losses to a couple of the wing tips and feathers. There is also a spot where it looks like there was originally an emery striker that is long gone. Otherwise the condition is excellent with no cracks or repairs and it displays beautifully. If additional photo's are needed or you have need of answers to questions we do not address we will be happy to supply them. WE USUALLY SEND OUR INVOICE WITHIN 1 HOUR OF THE AUCTIONS ENDING.
