Vintage Hand-Carved Wooden Redhead Duck Decoy - Unsigned - Folk Art. This is a beautifully hand-carved and hand-painted Redhead Duck drake decoy. The body shows detailed carving strokes throughout the feathers, and the paintwork displays natural shading and lifelike texture. The bottom shows evidence of a removed keel, indicating it was originally a working hunting decoy and later transitioned to a decorative display piece.

Hand-painted with detailed feather texturing. Vintage folk art style, likely 1970s-1990s. Bottom shows keel removal from earlier working use.

Excellent display piece, rustic cabin/lodge décor. Light wear consistent with age. No major cracks or structural issues. Please review all photos for exact condition. Redhead Duck (Aythya americana) - male drake.

Slate-blue bill with black tip. Dark chest and detailed feather carving.

Hand-carved wood - the carving marks, feather texturing, and tool strokes are visible. Hollow body style typical of working decoys. Flat bottom with remnants of a removed keel, meaning.

It was originally a working decoy used for waterfowl hunting. The keel was removed later, making it a display piece. Judging by wear, carving style, paint aging, and the keel holes. Likely 1970s-1990s American Midwest carving traditions (Illinois River, Upper Midwest style). Not factory-made - definitely a folk-art hand-carved piece.

Many carvers did not sign their early work.
