Vintage hand-carved wood head doll standing 10 1/4 inches tall - American Folk Art Male Doll. He is signed on the bottom of the right foot P. And scratched on the bottom of the left foot a date of 1951 or 1957.

He has a firmly stuffed cloth body (clothing is not removable) with finely detailed hand-carved wooden hands and wooden boots with leather uppers. The head is attached with a small eye-hook at the base of the head and elastic cord. As shown, his head is attached but loose. The left hand is stitched into the pocket of his trousers. This is the second doll by this artist I have owned in my forty-plus years of collecting dolls. Both of the dolls have the signature style of attaching the head, the same fine detail to the carving of the head and hands, the same wood and leather boots, and finally, the same style of costuming them in old worn & stained fabrics as a vagabond or hobo. Note the tiny hand-carved wooden knife tucked into the waist of his trousers and hidden under his clothing. This clothing has weathered even more in the past seventy years.
